In my April ďLegislative ReportĒ television program, I discuss the Property Tax Independence Act with the sponsor of the bill, Senator Dave Argall.
The legislation, which I am also sponsoring, would eliminate school property taxes and replace the revenue with state income and sales tax revenue. Iíve been working with Senator Argall to eliminate property taxes for many years, and the 2015-16 legislative session marks our best opportunity yet to enact this historic legislation
On Wednesday, April 8, I had the honor of hosting my first Community Safety Conference for the 40th Senate District at Monroe Safety Center in Snydersville. We were privileged to host Richard Flynn, Director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), and Tim Solobay, the PA State Fire Commissioner.
More than 85 representatives from emergency services agencies and fire companies across Monroe and Northampton counties in the 40th District were in attendance. Each attendee was given the opportunity to air concerns and offer suggestions for the state to consider and to learn about the latest changes and initiatives in emergency services.
My office continues to serve as a resource for our emergency service agencies on any state-related issues. We are grateful for the invaluable service our many first responders provide in ensuring the continued safety of our communities.
