Senate Bill 76 Set for Senate Floor Vote

Senate Bill 76, a bill eliminating school property taxes and replacing them with revenues from the sales tax and income tax, is expected to get a vote on the Senate floor next week. As a long-time supporter of property tax elimination and a co-sponsor of this bill, I am pleased to hear that the full Senate will be working on this issue. I will be sure to speak on the floor about how school property taxes have led to rising foreclosures in our region. Please stay tuned for updates.

Senator Scavello Honors Veterans at Several Veterans Day Ceremonies

On Wednesday, we honored all veterans for their service and sacrifices made to protect our country. My staff and I met with veterans in Bangor, Eldred Township, Gilbert, Tannersville and East Stroudsburg to give thanks to all those who have served. “A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America for an amount up to and including their life.”

Monroe County Career Institute DECA

On Tuesday, I attended the 43rd Annual Installation of Officers and New Members for DECA Chapter of the Monroe Career and Technical Institute. DECA training prepares students for their role as future leaders and entrepreneurs. Congratulations to MCTI’s local DECA Chapter.

Student Shadows Senator Scavello to Learn About Public Service

Mary, a junior at Nazareth High School, has shadowed me for the last two weeks at local events to gain hands-on experience in public service and community leadership. I wish her the best in her future endeavors.

Game Commission Lifts Ban on Out-of-State Carcasses

The Pennsylvania Game Commission removed the ban prohibiting hunters from transporting carcasses of deer, elk and other cervids into Pennsylvania from Maryland, New York, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia. The amended rules only prohibit the importation of cervid carcasses harvested where chronic wasting disease (CWD) has been detected.
