Senator Scavello to Host College and Career FairI will be hosting a College and Career Fair with exhibitors for people of all ages on Thursday, April 15 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pleasant Valley High School. Whether you are a high school student applying for scholarships or an adult looking for a career change, the career fair will have valuable information available to you. Senator Scavello Invites You to get Professional Blood Pressure ScreeningI would like to invite residents to make an appointment to attend the second event in my Healthy Living Series. This free blood pressure screening will be held at my Pen Argyl District office on Monday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The blood pressure screening will be conducted by a professional in partnership with St. Luke’s University Health Network. Monroe County Head Start Celebrates 50th AnniversaryAwards were given by Monroe County Head Start to several individuals dedicated to “leading the way” in education. Dr. Sharon Laverdure, Superintendent of the East Stroudsburg Area School District received the Jean Eden Award last evening. The award is presented to individuals who have been strong supporters and advocates of early childhood education efforts in our community. Congratulations Dr. Laverdure and I wish you the best during your upcoming retirement. In addition, the United Way of Monroe County received the Champion for Children Award and Sanofi Pasteur received the Gold Star Award. April 12: Scavello, American Legion Hold Veterans Assistance Day at Tannersville District Office
On the second Tuesday of each month, the American Legion holds a Veterans Assistance Day at our Tannersville district office. The next Veterans Assistance Day is April 12. The district office is located at 2989 Route 611, Suite 103 in Tannersville. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a service officer with the American Legion Pennsylvania Department will be on site to assist veterans with issues including: compensation and pension claims, education benefits, enrollment in the VA health care system, burial and survivor benefits, state benefits, and obtaining military personnel and medical records. Veterans do not need to be a member of the American Legion to receive these services. Please contact the Tannersville office to schedule an appointment at 570-620-4326. Local Monroe County State Representatives Host Outdoor ExpoA hunter/trapper education course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The hunter education course is available to first-time hunters and children ages 11 and up. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. Topics covered during the course include responsible hunting behavior, firearm safety, wildlife and conservation management and hunting techniques, to name a few. A Moving Suicide Prevention Talk from Kevin HinesSuicide prevention and living with bipolar disorder will be among the topics of a talk by Kevin Hines on April 12 at Salisbury High School in Allentown. After being diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 19 and attempting suicide, Kevin went on to share his will to live as a mental health advocate, award-winning speaker, author and documentary filmmaker. He has previously spoken at East Stroudsburg University in an appearance that was well received, and his April 12 talk is another chance to hear his motivational message.
