In this Update:
Senate Budget Hearings Begin Tuesday
The Senate Appropriations Committee will hold public hearings on the proposed $34.1 billion state budget from this coming Tuesday to March 7.
As a member of the committee, I will be joining my colleagues in questioning administration officials and department heads to seek justification of their spending requests. You can watch the hearings live at SenatorScavello.com. I will send summaries and video of each hearing in my e-newsletters over the next three weeks.
Independent Fiscal Office is a Key Budget Resource
The state budget season is a good time to get acquainted with the work of PA’s Independent Fiscal Office, an independent agency created by the General Assembly to provide revenue projections and impartial, timely fiscal analysis.
Reports include monthly economic trends, five-year outlook, pension analysis and more. The IFO does not support or oppose any policy it analyzes, and is required to disclose the methodologies, data sources and assumptions used in published reports and estimates.

Many of prescription drugs fueling the opioid crisis among Pennsylvania’s youth are taken from family medicine cabinets.
Drug take-back boxes provide a safe method for disposing expired/unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications. Here’s a list of items that DEA regulations allow to be disposed of, along with locations of the nearest take-back boxes.
Around the 40th District

The new Farmers Insurance Gary Alt Agency celebrated their ribbon cutting on Valentine’s Day at their new office on Milford Road in East Stroudsburg. Congratulations and thank you for making an investment in our region and strengthening our local economy.
