Honoring Those Who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice

As we enjoy the extended Memorial Day weekend, I hope citizens take the time to honor the members of the U.S. Armed Forces who gave their lives in defense of freedom and liberty. There is no way to repay them for their sacrifice, other than vowing to never forget what they did for our nation.

In Case You Missed It: School Property Tax Elimination Update

I recently provided a thorough update on the number one issue in our region: school property tax elimination. You can read it here.

Around the 40th District

What a privilege it was to join the Bangor Exchange Club Wednesday night in honoring graduating seniors from Bangor, Pen Argyl and Faith Christian schools. These young men and women are beyond impressive, each participating in a host of school and community activities, in addition to their top-of-their-class academic achievement. Their school representatives all testified to their hard work ethic, their post-high school ambitions and the challenges they overcame in pursuit of excellence.

Congratulations to you all and my sincerest best wishes to you as you continue to lead and serve!

Earlier this week I filmed segments for upcoming episodes of my Legislative Report TV show where I had the opportunity to sit down with students from Monroe Career & Technical Institute. I never cease to be amazed by the talents of our students studying the trades in our community – their proficiency in their respective programs and skillful mastery of their craft is inspiring. I’m excited to highlight their talents and continue working toward all-day programming for the school so we can continue growing their success.

Last week I joined the PA Department of Labor & Industry’s Deputy Secretary of Workforce Development Eileen Cipriani on a visit to Monroe County Career & Technical Institute. We discussed the needs of the school directly, as well as exciting opportunities within the skilled trades for our future workforce. I commend the Deputy Secretary for visiting career and technical schools around the Commonwealth, including MCTI. These are jobs that will not be shipped overseas and will stay in our communities. I am pleased to see the Deputy Secretary’s focus aligns with my efforts to establish all-day career and technical education across the 40th Senate District.

Last weekend we celebrated two grand openings in the 40th Senate District. Soulful Journeys Massage & Yoga Studio had their official ribbon cutting in Nazareth Borough, where they offer a variety of holistic health and wellness services/opportunities for area residents. We also joined community members and the Pocono Chamber of Commerce for the grand opening of Traditional Home Health Care in East Stroudsburg. Their team of medical professionals and caregivers provide a variety of services to enable individuals to get the care they need in the comfort of home.

Congratulations all!

Sunday is “Fish for Free” Day

This Sunday, May 26 is the first PA “Fish For Free” Day in 2019. This is a great opportunity to get out on the water when anyone can legally fish without a license on Pennsylvania waterways.

The next and last 2019, Fish-for-Free Day will be Thursday, July 4th. Remember, all other fishing regulations still apply on these days but this is a great chance to get back into the sport or to expose children to fishing for the first time. Click here for more info.
