Ringing in 2020

As we begin the new year, I want to thank you for the honor of representing you and your families in the General Assembly. My staff and I look forward to continuing to serve the needs of the 40th District in 2020! Wishing you and your loved ones much joy and prosperity in the year ahead. Happy New Year!

Scavello and Toomey Partner to Recognize Korean War Veterans

I want to make you aware of the Korean Ambassador for Peace medal which is available to veterans who serviced served in Korea from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953. The Medal was created by the Korean Consul General to recognize and thank our veterans for serving in what is often called “the forgotten war.

U.S. Senator Toomey has been able to secure these medals and is asking my office to help Korean War veterans apply for and receive this honor. An eligible veteran must have served in Korea at some time during the Korean War from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953. Members of the US Navy are eligible if they served aboard a naval vessel that was assigned to Korean waters during the aforementioned timeframe. Veterans who participated in UN peacekeeping efforts in Korea until the end of 1955 are also eligible for this award. Applications for the Peace Medal are available in all of my offices and on my website. We are happy to help any eligible veteran fill out the application and submit it. The deadline for applications is January 10, 2020. Please help us spread the word so that we may honor as many veterans as possible!

PennDOT Offices Closed January 1

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Wednesday, January 1, 2020, for the New Year’s holiday.

Motorists can still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle information and services — including all forms, publications and driver training manuals – online.

One of the biggest obstacles facing service members and veterans is how to translate the skills and education they received in the military into civilian employment.

A survey by the PA State Department and St. Francis University’s Knee Center for the Study of Occupational Regulation is asking current PA military service members, veterans and their families about their experience transferring occupational licensure from the military to the private sector. Responses will be kept confidential.

The November 2019 PA nursing home inspection (or “survey”) report is online at the PA Department of Health, covering 333 nursing homes and 303 complaint investigations.

Homes are listed alphabetically. If you see something at a nursing home that doesn’t seem right, call 1-800-254-5164.

Congratulations to Antonio Clemente of Troop 86 for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout! For his Eagle project, Antonio landscaped the Bill Clark Memorial Garden at Stroudsburg United Methodist Church. Well done, Antonio. We wish you only the best as you look forward to serving in our Nation’s military!

Just before Christmas, we joined Dunkin’ Donuts in Delaware Water Gap which held their grand opening. Congratulations on the new store. We wish you success for years to come!
