Chamber of Commerce Awards

This week, the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce honored several local residents for their true commitment and service to our community. The awards included:

  • Michelle Frailey-Miller , Gray Chevrolet Cadillac of the Poconos ATHENA Award
  • Dr. Nche Zama , Humanitarian of the Year
  • Richard Mutchler , Businessperson of the Year
  • Carl Wilgus , Citizen of the Year
  • Gina Bertucci , Frank Schoelch Community Commitment Award
  • James DePetris , Chairman’s Business Award
Senator Scavello

The award recipients are proven leaders in their industries and continue to lead our community through public service and support. I thank each one of them for their contributions to making Monroe County a stronger community.

Support Equity First

My Legislative Director joined a press conference with David Parker on the inequitable school funding formula that has hurt our schools and taxpayers in Monroe and Northampton counties. Throughout my time in office I have fought to end school property taxes. The fight to establish and maintain an equitable school funding formula is equally critical, going hand in hand with school property tax reform. Please visit to join the fight.

Drug Take Back Day

Senator Scavello

After collecting and destroying 5.5 million pounds—2,762 tons—of unused prescription drugs in the past 5 years, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is continuing its efforts to take back unused, unwanted and expired prescription medications.

The DEA invites the public to bring their potentially dangerous, unwanted medicines to one of over 5,000 collection sites around the country that are manned by more than 3,800 of DEA’s tribal and local law enforcement partners this Saturday, April 30th, from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. local time. That includes several locations in Monroe County.

The service is free and with no questions asked.

The public can find a nearby collection site by visiting, clicking on the “Got Drugs?” icon, and entering their zip code into the search window, or call 800-882-9539.

Girl Scouts Donate to Book Drive

Senator Scavello

I want to extend a very special thank you to one of our local Girl Scouts, Kendra, for all of her hard work in collecting books for our book drive in support of children's literacy! Your donation will greatly help Riverside Rehabilitation as they provide books to children for Better Hearing and Speech Month in May.

Colonial IU20 Honors Excellence in Education

Last evening, Colonial IU20 honored young leaders committed to excellence in education and awarded recognition to our many merited student scholars. Please join me in congratulating these individuals and I wish them the best in their future endeavors.

Senator Scavello Celebrates Month of the Young Child

April was Month of the Young Child and this week I had the opportunity to visit the Lehigh Valley Children’s Center to teach and meet with students. Thank you for inviting me to spend time with at Forks Elementary.

Scavello joins in Stroudsburg JDRF Walk

I joined many friends from our area in the JDRF Diabetes Walk. Thank you to all who participated and congratulations on such a successful event.

Honoring Pat Solano

I recently attended the Pennsylvania Society annual meeting with former Governors Ridge and Corbett where we honored Pat Solano for his many years of dedication and service to Pennsylvania.
