Wishing You Happy Holidays

A little smile. A word of cheer. A bit of love from someone near. A little gift from one held dear. Best wishes for the coming year. From my family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and a Happy New Year.

U.S. Marine Toys for Tots Program

By providing new toys for Christmas, the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots program delivers a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters, to “assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.” You can still donate a new, unwrapped toy at a Monroe County or Northampton County location nearest you. All donations will bring joy and cheer to a child in our neighborhood.

December Episode of Legislative Report

December 2016 - Summit School of the Poconos

In my December episode of Legislative Report, I interview Nicole Elwood and Jennifer Olson and tour the Summit School of the Poconos, a new private school in Monroe County with a project-based curriculum known as STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. The Summit believes learning is not only measured by the knowledge an individual possesses, but by a capability to apply it, and the learning process should be valued as much as the results.

LIHEAP Applications Open to Eligible Residents

Pennsylvania’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is taking applications through March 31, 2017 for home heating assistance to qualifying low- and fixed-income individuals and families, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.

Income eligibility for heating assistance for a household of one is $17,820, increasing incrementally with a family of ten’s income eligibility set at $73,815. Each additional person over ten raises the limit by $6,240.

Please contact my office if you need assistance completing an application. All required documents should be brought with you in order to verify accurate information. You can also apply online or download an application through COMPASS, Pennsylvania’s secure website for many health and human service programs. Learn more here.

Route 940 Bridge Named in Honor of General John Sullivan

This week marked the culmination of the extensive volunteer efforts of the Historical Association of Tobyhanna Township and the naming of Sullivan Bridge on Route 940 in Tobyhanna Township. Rick Bodenschatz and the Historical Association requested that legislation be introduced to name the bridge after General John Sullivan, who led soldiers during the American Revolution to stop the British advance into Pennsylvania. Sullivan and his regiment of 500 military road builders accomplished the Herculean task of building a road to accommodate the Colonial troops in just six weeks, from Tannersville to Wilkes-Barre. Congratulations on this group effort in commemorating the role of General Sullivan and his troops in winning our nation's independence.

Belvin Family Christmas Spectacular Supports Local Charities

This year, the Belvin Family of Tannersville is hosting their Christmas lights spectacular at their home located at 464 Cherry Lane Rd in East Stroudsburg. All donations collected will go to benefit the United Way of Monroe County and the many non-profits they support. The lights are on display every evening through January 1. See the attached flyer for details! A special thank you to Jerrod Belvin and his family for their generosity this Christmas season!

Wreath Laying Honored Those Who Have Sacrificed for Our Country

The wreath-laying ceremonies held at the Delaware Water Gap Cemetery and the Wooddale Methodist Church was an honorable occasion. As we laid wreaths on behalf of those who have served and fallen, we were reminded of their selfless sacrifice for all of us. Thank you to all who joined us.
